Karnataka Solar Energy Policy By Saur News Bureau/ Updated On Wed, Apr 26th, 2017 SuryaLogix Installs Weather Monitoring System for 300 MW Solar Project in Karnataka Karnataka Solar Energy Policy Updates 2017 The solar installation target has been changed from 2,000 MW to 6,000 MW by March 2021 as per the amendments to Karnataka Solar Policy 2014-2021 were announced. The changes were made to reflect the new tariff policy and targets fixed for the state by the MNRE. The current installed capacity of the state is 300MW including rooftop. OBJECTIVE To add solar generation of minimum 2000MW by 2021 in a phased manner by creating a favorable industrial atmosphere. To translate Karnataka into an investor friendly state. To encourage public private participation in this sector. To promote solar rooftop generation and technologies. To encourage decentralized generation of & distribution of energy where access to grid is difficult. To promote R&D and innovations, skill development in the sector. APPLICABILITY All solar power projects (Solar PV and solar Thermal) established in the state of Karnataka shall be eligible for benefits under the policy. GRID CONNECTED, UTILITY SCALE PROJECTS For the development of solar power projects under this policy and individual/ firm/ society/ institution/ registered company including public utilities shall be eligible to apply. GRID CONNECTED ROOFTOP PRO-JECTS All individuals’ residential/ commercial/ institutional/ Govt. Building owners, industrial units are eligible to set up solar power plants within the prescribed capacity limit. In addition interested firm/ registered com-panies including public utilities shall be eligible to set up roof-top projects on third party roofs. OFF GRID PROJECTS Any individual shall be eligible to set up off grid projects. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA Projects established in the State of Karnataka during the Operative period shall be eligible for benefits under this policy. SECURITY The developer shall provide Security Deposit in the form of Bank Guarantee @ Rs 1 Lakh per MW or as per the prevailing Government order payable to KREDL based on allotted capacity within 45 days of Allotment GO or before the signing of agreement, whichever is earlier.
