World’s Largest Wind Farm of 43.3 GW to Come Up in China

China is looking to establish the world’s largest wind farm, which is to come up in the city of Chaozhou that has announced ambitious plans to set up a 43.3 gigawatt facility.

The 10 km long farm will operate between 75 and 185 kilometres offshore and will boast of thousands of heavy-duty turbines. Because the farm will be located in a windy location, the turbines will run between 43 per cent and 49 per cent of the time.

The project will kickoff before 2025, as per the province. The work of the project will begin before 2025 and upon completion, it will overpower the current largest wind farm in the world- also in China. Currently, the largest wind farm in the world is Jiuquan Wind Power that holds a 20 gigawatt capacity.

“We will work actively and prudently toward the goals of reaching peak carbon emissions and carbon neutrality,” President Xi Jinping revealed recently. “Based on China’s energy and resource endowments, we will advance initiatives to reach peak carbon emissions in a well-planned and phased way, in line with the principle of getting the new before discarding the old,” he further added.

Wind Energy Superpower- China

Upon the conclusion of year 2021, the world’s cumulative onshore as well as offshore wind power capacity crossed 830 GW. China held a powerful share of this, accounting for than half of this number.

In 2021, China saw the installation of the most offshore wind generation capacity than any other country in the world has generated in the span of the last five years.
