Work Begins at Mudasarlova Reservoir Floating Solar Power Plant By Zulkarnain/ Updated On Tue, May 8th, 2018 The floating solar water plant is not only environment-friendly but will also help GVMC to curtail down on electricity bills. Also, to some extent, it will help to cut down evaporation from the reservoir. With the generation capacity of 2000 kWp the work at floating solar power plant at Mudasarlova reservoir started on Monday. The work is undertaken by by Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC). Although the bases for the solar panels have already been installed, by the end of this month the panels will be installed. The floating solar water plant is not only environment-friendly but will also help GVMC to curtail down on electricity bills. Also, to some extent, it will help to cut down evaporation from the reservoir. In the period of two months the project will be fully operational. Earlier the states like Kerala and West Bengal has adopted such technologies, however the scale of Mudasarlova project is much bigger than others in the neighboring states. Although all the solar panels can with stand any kind of weathers but it is believed that floating panels are more efficient and durable. “We have started to set up the floating bases and solar plants are likely to be placed by the end of this month. The bases will have bed-like structure at the bottom, so that when water dries up, the panels will not get damaged. It may take two months for the completion of the project,” said an official of GVMC.
