The Ajmer division of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC) has invited bids for a grid-connected solar power plant with a net metering facility at six railway stations namely New Jawali, New Biroliya, New Keshavganj, New Banas, New Swarupganj, New Sriamirgarh falling under Ajmer unit of Railways in Rajasthan. The bidding date is February 5, 2024, while the closing date of the tender is 19th February 2024.

The earnest money required for the project is Rs 3,47,000 and the offer provided is valid for the period of 45 days. The stipulated time to complete the project, mentioned in the tender, is 8 months.

According to the WDFC tender, the tenderer must have a minimum average annual contractual turnover. The average annual contractual turnover shall be calculated as an average of “total contractual payments” in the previous three financial years. As far as eligibility criteria are concerned, the tenderer will also be required to successfully complete projects during the last seven years. Furthermore, the bidder should also have experience with three similar works, each costing not less than the amount equal to 30% of the advertised value of the tender, or two similar works each costing not less than the amount equal to 40% of the advertised value of the tender or one similar work, each costing not less than the amount equal to 60% of advertised value of the tender.

A dedicated freight corridor has been built in the country largely spanning through north and western India with the aim of having a high-capacity railway corridor that is exclusively meant for the transportation of goods and commodities. While the entire 100 percent of the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC) is operational, around 70 percent of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor is completed.

Amid the push to achieve sustainable energy goals, Indian Railways (IR) has installed over 200 MW of solar power at some major railway stations in India. According to media reports, 211.49 MW solar rooftop capacity has been installed in 1498 railway stations in the country. Some of the major stations are Varanasi, Katra, New Delhi, Old Delhi, Jaipur, Secunderabad, Kolkata, Guwahati, Howrah.
