Volvo Cars has joined hands with charging firm Plugsurfing to offer Europe-wide EV charging service on all-electric models, the Swedish automaker has informed. With this partnership, drivers of fully electric Volvo Recharge models in Europe will have access to over 200,000 charging points, as the company claimed.

As Volvo said, a Plugsurfing account will be included on every fully electric Volvo Recharge car in Europe, giving access to numerous local charging networks around Europe. The customers will be able to charge their car with a contactless charge card or smartphone app at any of Plugsurfing’s over 200,000 supported charging points in 38 European countries, said Volvo.

Björn Annwall, head of EMEA at Volvo Cars, said, “Your Plugsurfing service will cover all your charging and driving needs: the daily commute, on-location charging and long-distance travel. This freedom of mind makes driving an electric Volvo even more enjoyable and hasslefree.”

Volvo Cars will start rolling out the Plugsurfing service with the fully electric XC40 Recharge P8 when deliveries start later in 2020. By 2025, Volvo aims 50 percent of global sales to be attributed to fully electric cars, with the rest coming from hybrids.

Anne Jalkala, CEO of Plugsurfing, said, “together with Volvo Cars, Plugsurfing has a strong vision for sustainability and making car charging easy. By working together with Volvo Cars to drive the electrification of mobility and connect drivers to energy, we aim to make zero-emission mobility a reality for future generations of drivers.”

Arvind Goel, MD, Tata Autocomp Systems said that as part of the Tata Group initiative, Tata AutoComp has been planning a significant play in providing systems and components for Electric Vehicles, as well as provide enabling systems for establishing charging infrastructure.

“Tata AutoComp and Tellus will now provide various sizes of AC chargers from 3 kW to 11kW for home and residential complexes as well as DC Fast Chargers from 20kW to 300kW to meet the needs to charge various types of vehicles in public places such as office and commercial parking lots, convenience public charging stations within cities as well as highways, dedicated depots for commercial vehicles, etc. to name a few. This arrangement is another step in fulfilling the strategic intent of Tata AutoComp to provide ‘Charge to Drive’ solutions for the electric vehicles,” he had said.
