Volvo Car India has unveiled its highly anticipated all-electric C40 Recharge SUV, marking the brand’s second electric vehicle (EV) in the Indian lineup. The C40 Recharge EV will be available in a single variant, and its pricing will be announced in August 2023, with deliveries scheduled to commence in September 2023. The C40 Recharge will be locally assembled (CKD) in the country. Volvo C40 Recharge will compete in the Indian market against rivals that include Kia EV6, Hyundai Ioniq 5, BMW i4 and others.

Battery and Range

Equipped with a 78kWh lithium-ion battery, the Volvo C40 Recharge EV offers a WLTP-certified range of 530 km on a single charge. Featuring a dual-electric motor setup and offered in a single AWD version, the electric SUV delivers a peak power of 408 hp and a maximum torque of 660 Nm. Accelerating from 0-100 kmph in just 4.7 seconds, it boasts a top speed of 180 km/h.

Stylish Exterior and Interior

The Volvo C40 Recharge is an SUV-coupe iteration derived from the XC40 Recharge. It shares the same distinct front fascia with a closed upper grille, complemented by sharp LED headlights featuring Thor’s hammer daytime running lights (DRLs) and a three-piece bumper design. With its sloping roofline, a hallmark of coupe body style, the Volvo C40 Recharge embodies a unique and eye-catching aesthetic. Built on Volvo’s Compact Modular Architecture (CMA), the vehicle boasts 19-inch alloy wheels that enhance its overall appeal. Showcasing a sleek exterior design, the C40 Recharge EV features a closed-off front fascia, LED headlamps, and vertical LED tail lamps. The inclusion of 19-inch five-spoke diamond-cut alloy wheels further adds to its elegance and sportiness, cementing its distinctive presence on the road.

Inside, the Volvo C40 Recharge EV features a refined interior with Charcoal and Sky Blue inserts. The vehicle comes equipped with a range of luxurious and convenient features, including a 12.3-inch driver display, a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a four-way power-adjustable driver seat with lumbar support, power-adjustable passenger seats, Suede textile/Microtech upholstery, a three-spoke leather steering wheel, and more. Other notable interior features include keyless entry, dual-zone climate control, an air purifier, a gear lever knob, and a panoramic sunroof. The infotainment unit, co-developed with Google, offers integrated services such as Google Maps, Google Assistant, and Google Play Store.

Colour Options

The Volvo C40 Recharge EV is available in six enticing colour options, including Crystal White, Onyx Black, Fusion Red, Cloud Blue, Sage Green, and Fjord Blue.

Expected Pricing

The auto manufacturer has not announced the price yet. Bookings and sales of the new Volvo C40 Recharge will begin in August once the company reveals its price. Deliveries will begin in September. Currently, the Volvo XC40 Recharge EV is priced at Rs 56.90 lakh (ex-showroom) in the Indian market. The upcoming C40 Recharge EV is expected to be priced at approximately Rs 60 lakh (ex-showroom) when it is officially launched in India.
