Danish wind energy major Vestas and Hyderabad-based Vibrant Energy have signed a deal for two wind projects in India. As part of the order, Vestas will supply a total of 36 units of V155-3.6 MW turbines.

Vestas said that this is its second order from Vibrant Energy in India in less than a year. With this, Vestas continues to solidify its position as a reliable and trusted partner in sustainable energy solutions in India.

Deliveries of the turbines to Vibrant Energy are expected to begin in the fourth quarter of 2023, while commissioning of all turbines is expected to be completed by second quarter of 2024.

Srini Viswanathan, CEO, Vibrant Energy, said, “Vestas has been our key partner in delivering our wind projects, and we are glad to announce the second order for V155-3.6 MW turbines. With this order of 36 turbines totaling 130 MW, we can strengthen our product offering for wind-solar hybrid power projects for our corporate customers. We look forward to expanding this partnership and delivering our shared vision of a sustainable-energy driven future.”

Purvin Patel, CEO & President, Vestas Asia Pacific, commented, “Vibrant Energy is one of India’s fastest growing renewable energy companies. We have worked closely with them over the last one year over the execution of their current project in Maharashtra and I am confident that this second order will only be another stepping stone to a long and mutually fruitful partnership between the two companies.”

In a previous deal, Vestas received an order in 2022 for 54 MW wind project in the state of Maharashtra from Vibrant Energy. The Maharashtra wind project of Vibrant Energy is expected to generate 178 GWh of green electricity annually for the coming 20 years. Before this, Vestas announced the introduction of the V155-3.3 MW turbine optimised for low and ultra-low wind conditions to help meet the growing demand in India.

Vestas said that it has signed a preferred supplier agreement for a 495 MW floating offshore wind project in South Korea. If the project materialises, the firm will supply and install 33 units of the V236-15.0 MW turbine for the project. The company has not disclosed the name of the buyer.
