Vestas Closes 2020 With Orders Worth 900 MW Across Colombia, India and More

Vestas has announced nine new orders as it closed in 2020. Securing orders in Colombia, India, Italy, Spain and more for 898 MW wind capacity.

One of the leading wind turbine suppliers globally – Vestas announced nine new orders as it closed in 2020. The firm has secured orders in Colombia, India, Italy, Spain and more for delivery and EPC of a total of nearly 900 MW capacity of wind energy turbines.

The biggest order has been secured in Colombia, where the firm bagged a 504 MW project order for its EnVentus platform. The contract includes the supply and installation of 90 V162-5.6 MW EnVentus wind turbines, as well as a 15-year Active Output Management 5000 (AOM 5000) service agreement.

This will be the first project to feature turbines from the EnVentus platform in Latin America and it takes the global order intake for the platform past 2 GW. With a swept area of over 20,000m², the V162-5.6 MW applies the largest rotor size in the Vestas portfolio to achieve industry-leading energy production paired with a high capacity factor.

“The EnVentus platform establishes a new benchmark in competitiveness, and we expect it to make a huge contribution to the energy transition both in Colombia and in Latin America over the coming years,” said Vestas Vice President for LATAM North, Agustín Sánchez Tembleque.

In India, the firm has received a new order from one of its existing customers, MSPL Limited, for its 17 MW Hospet project in Karnataka, India. This will add to Vestas’s existing installed base in India of close to 4 GW.

The order includes the supply and installation of seven V120-2.2 MW turbines and one V100-2.0 MW turbine. Deliveries are expected to begin in the first quarter of 2021, while commissioning is planned for the third quarter of 2021.

In Italy, the firm has secured two orders. The first is for the 52 MW Bella wind park, to be located in Bella, in the Basilicata region, Italy. The contract, signed with Ares, includes the supply and installation of one V136-3.45 MW wind turbine and fourteen V136-4.2 MW wind turbines delivered in different power modes, as well as a 20-year Active Output Management 5000 (AOM 5000) service agreement. The second order is a 51 MW order for an undisclosed project. The contract includes the supply and installation of eleven V136-4.2 MW wind turbines, ten of which will be delivered in 4.3 MW Optimised Power Mode, one V117-3.45 MW wind turbine, and a 15-year Active Output Management 5000 (AOM 5000) service agreement.

In Spain, the firm has secured a 46 MW order for a wind park which will include the supply and installation of eleven V136-4.2 MW wind turbines. Once installed, this project will be added to the more than 4.7 GW that Vestas has installed in Spain since 1991, when the company erected its first wind turbine in the country. The firm has also received an EPC order in the country for a 35 MW wind park. The contract includes the supply, transport, installation and commissioning of sixteen V120-2.2 MW wind turbines.

The remaining orders have been received in Brazil (two projects worth 95 MW), in Finland (90 MW), and in Portugal.
