The state government of Uttarakhand has announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Central Government owned Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) to boost the renewable energy sector in the state.

In the presence of Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Pushkar Singh Dhami, the MoU was signed by R Meenakshi Sundaram, Power Secretary of the state, Shaily Abraham, Chief General Manager, Renewable Energy and Amit Garg, Executive Director, BPCL.

CM Pushkar Dhami said on the new development, “Today we have signed an MoU with Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited in the field of renewable energy. Certainly, this is the thinking of taking forward our state by balancing both in the field of renewable energy and ecological economy.”

Dhami also said that the agreement would aid in the growth of the renewable energy sector in the state, particularly solar energy. Energy and tourism are two major pillars of the state’s development. Dhami maintained that Uttarakhand’s demand for power from industries and the home sector is expanding as a result of economic development. He held that the state administration is trying its best to make Uttarakhand an energy surplus state and a particular emphasis on solar energy.

The Chief Minister thanked BPCL for the initiative and stated that the company will receive all available assistance from the state government. He also said that organisations and entrepreneurs interested in working in the solar energy sector will also have state support.

Arun Kumar Singh, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) BPCL informs, “BPCL would assist in the development of renewable energy in Uttarakhand. There is no shortage of resources or talent, and that by cooperating and coordinating, we can all contribute to the nation’s success”.

“There is no dearth of resources and talent. We have to contribute to the progress of the country through mutual coordination. Uttarakhand has seen rapid development in the last few years,” added Singh.

Uttarakhand is the only other state, apart from Sikkim, to have achieved the 50 per cent of its renewable energy target in India for 2022.
