The Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA) has announced plans to develop solar projects with a cumulative capacity of 2 GW across four districts in the state. To attract potential developers, the state nodal agency has issued an Expression of Interest (EOI), inviting participation from solar project developers.

Investment Opportunities for Renewable Energy Companies

The EOI aims to generate interest among renewable energy companies to invest in Uttar Pradesh’s solar sector. As part of its plan, the state government will lease land for these projects, which will be developed on a Build-Own-Operate (BOO) basis on designated government land parcels.

“UPNEDA has issued this Expression of Interest with the best intention for rapid deployment of Solar PV projects in the state of Uttar Pradesh from interested solar project developers and has no compulsions to enter into definitive contractual agreements. This EOI does not guarantee conversion of this EOI into any definitive contractual agreements,” the EOI issued by UPNEDA stated.

Project Locations & Development Scope

UPNEDA has earmarked Chitrakoot, Jhansi, Lalitpur, and Jalaun for the implementation of these projects.

“The primary objective of this EOI is to engage with potential developers and to gauge the interest of capable developers in setting up of 2 GW solar PV projects on build-own-operate basis on land parcels spread across the districts of Chitrakoot, Jalaun, Jhansi and Lalitpur in Uttar Pradesh. Successful respondents will have the liberty to choose their own power procurers,” the document further stated.

As the nodal implementing agency under the Uttar Pradesh Solar Energy Policy, 2022, UPNEDA is working towards achieving the state’s ambitious target of 22,000 MW of solar energy by 2027. Of this, 14,000 MW is allocated for large-scale solar power projects.

Land Allocation & Project Distribution

The agency has identified 800 acres of government land for hosting the solar projects. “The 2 GW project will be developed on approx. 8000 acres of Govt. land, with various project capacities at different sites. These sites are distributed across 158 villages in the districts of Chitrakoot, Jhansi, Jalaun, and Lalitpur in Uttar Pradesh. To facilitate the establishment of this solar power plant, and in accordance with the solar energy policy of 2022, UPNEDA will lease approx. 8000 acres of government land for 30 years,” UPNEDA stated.
