Trinasolar Develops 800W+ Perovskite Tandem Solar Module By Saur News Bureau/ Updated On Tue, Apr 22nd, 2025 Highlights : Perovskite/silicon tandem technology offers the potential to surpass this ceiling, with theoretical efficiencies reaching up to 43%. China’s Trinasolar, a global smart solar PV and energy storage solutions provider, has claimed to have developed one of the industry’s first solar modules delivering over 800W of maximum power. The 3.1 square metre module, built using 210mm x 105mm perovskite/silicon tandem cells, achieved a maximum output of 808W, according to global certification body TÜV SÜD. As conventional silicon-based solar cell efficiency nears its theoretical limit, high-efficiency tandem cells are gaining industry attention. Perovskite/silicon tandem technology offers the potential to surpass this ceiling, with theoretical efficiencies reaching up to 43%. The technology is expected to replace silicon-only cells and become the new industry standard. Trina was also recently in the news for licensing the perovskite based tandem technology from Oxford PV. Trinasolar has invested heavily in research and development over the past decade, becoming a pioneer in tandem cell innovation. The company has collaborated with institutions such as Nanjing University, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and others in Jiangsu province, leading several national research projects. The company has filed 331 patents related to tandem cell technology. It has achieved notable advances in conversion efficiency through innovations in perovskite bulk doping, interface engineering and composite layer design—efforts that lay the groundwork for the large-scale production of perovskite/silicon tandem modules. Trinasolar, committed to its mission of “Solar Energy for All”, will continue to drive energy transition through technological innovation, contributing to a more sustainable and net-zero future.
