Tripura Plans To Build 10,895 Pump Storage Project Within Rural Areas The Joint Director of the Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency (TREDA) issued an e-tender, soliciting bids to set up a Pumped Storage Project in Tripura from prospective bidders. The agency, on behalf of the organization, invited tenders to establish consultancy services for the preparation of a Pre-Feasibility Report (PFR). TREDA has sought bids from interested bidders till January 30, 2025. The government of Tripura aims to generate 500 MW of renewable energy by 2030 to meet future energy requirements. The TREDA has targeted the installation of land-based grid-connected Solar Power Plant, Roof Top Solar Power Plants, floating solar, mini-grid through Solar, microgrid through solar & Pumped Storage Projects to achieve the 500 MW goal by 2030. Through the tender, TREDA intends to expand the state’s off-grid solar capacity from the current 11.33 MW. TREDA set the tender fee at Rs. 1,500 for online bid submission. Bidders are expected to complete the project within 90 days. Additionally, interested bidders are required to pay Rs. 1,65,200 as bid security/EMD. The tender value has been estimated at over Rs 66 lacs. The bidder shall have experience of providing minimum 3 (three) (Completed / Ongoing) long term (minimum 12 months) Project Management Unit (PMU) AND / OR Project Management Agency (PMA) AND / OR Project Management Consultancy (PMC) services on Pumped Storage Project (PSP) / Renewable Energy / Utility with the Central Government / State Government Departments / Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) / Autonomous Bodies of State / Central Government / Asian Development Bank (ADB) / World Bank / GIZ with aggregated work value of minimum Rs. 1.50 Crore during last 5 (five) financial years & current financial year as on the date of publication of the tender. Renewable Energy Growth In Tripura The cost of power purchase for Tripura DISCOM exceeds Rs. 5 per unit, as most of the power comes from gas-based plants. Installing solar power will reduce reliance on this high-cost energy and also help meet the Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO). Tripura has made significant progress in renewable energy. Before 2018, a total of 2.5 MW of electricity was generated through solar energy. In the last 6.5 years, Tripura has increased generation tenfold to more than 20.5 MW.
