Topsoe Unveils Plans To Build World’s Largest Electrolyser Plant By Saur News Bureau/ Updated On Wed, May 25th, 2022 Highlights : With 500 megawatt capacity per year and expandable to 5 gigawatt, the plant will be one of the first industrial scale plants of its kind. The new areas found by survey is highlighted in blue Denmark based decarbonization major Topsoe is going to build in Herning the world’s most advanced electrolyser production plant in order to meet society’s need for Power-to-X solutions. In this field, the company has the leading technology to decarbonize hard-to-abate sectors such as transport, chemicals, steel, and cement. A statement released by the company mentioned that the construction will start in 2022 and operations may start in 2024. With 500 megawatt capacity per year and expandable to 5 gigawatt, the plant will be one of the first industrial scale plants of its kind. Spread in 72,000 m2, the plant is planned to produce SOEC electrolysers – Solid Oxide Electrolyser Cells – which have a higher energy efficiency that competing technologies. When fully operational, 170 people will work on the site. Roeland Baan, CEO at Topsoe, says, ”We are willing and able to support society’s green ambitions and the need to accelerate the energy transition, and we have the technology to do it. With our new electrolyser production plant, we lead the way in speeding up commercial-size Power-to-X solutions, and we do it with our highly innovative technology that outmatches technologies currently in the market.” Danish Firm Halder Topsoe Fires First Salvo In Green Hydrogen Manufacturing Also Read Evincing considerable interest in our Power-to-X solutions, Topsoe is in advanced discussion with a number of potential partners over future offtake agreements and commitments to reserve capacity from the electrolyser plant. Developing a strong Power-to-X industry in Europe will make the region energy independent from the blackmailing gas rich countries. Roeland Baan says, “The agreement between the EU Commission and the four North Sea countries is an important step in the transition to renewable energy. At Topsoe, we are also ready to invest.
