Top 10 Rooftop Solar States by Installed Capacity in India

India has set one of the world’s most ambitious targets of 175 gigawatts (GW) for renewable energy capacity addition by 2022, including 100 GW for solar, 60 GW for wind, 10 GW for bioenergy and 5 GW for small hydro-power. Out of the solar’s 100 GW capacity, 40 GW will come from rooftop solar and 60 GW from ground-mounted solar projects. Here we look at the top ten rooftop solar states by installed capacity in the country.

1). Gujarat

Gujarat tops the list of states with the highest installed rooftop solar energy generation capacity in India. It’s total rooftop solar capacity as on February 29, 2020, stood at 468.9 megawatts (MW). While its total installed solar power generation capacity stood at 2,886.16 MW at the end of February this year.

2). Karnataka

Karnataka houses the second-highest installed rooftop solar energy generation capacity in India. Its rooftop solar capacity as of February 2020 stood at 232.77 MW. However, the state’s total installed solar power generation capacity stood at 7,277.93 MW as on February 29, 2020.

3). Rajasthan

Rajasthan houses the third-highest installed rooftop solar energy generation capacity on pan India. Its rooftop solar capacity at the end of February 2020 stood at 224 MW. Whereas, the state’s total installed solar power generation capacity stood at 5,035.08 MW at the end of February this year.

4). Maharashtra

Maharashtra houses the fourth-highest installed rooftop solar power generation capacity across the country. It’s rooftop solar capacity as on February 29, 2020, stood at 219.56 MW. Maharashtra’s total installed solar power capacity stood at 1,801.80 MW at the end of February 2020.

5). Delhi

Delhi houses the fifth-highest installed rooftop solar energy generation capacity in India. It’s rooftop solar capacity as of February 29, 2020, stood at 156.2 MW. While the state’s total installed solar power capacity stood at 165.16 MW at the end of February this year.

6). Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu houses the sixth-largest installed rooftop solar energy generation capacity in India. It’s rooftop solar capacity as on February 29, 2020, stood at 155.99 MW. However, Tamil Nadu’s total installed solar power capacity stood at 3,915.88 MW at the end of February 2020.

7). Uttar Pradesh

Uttar Pradesh houses the seventh-largest installed rooftop solar energy generation capacity on pan India. It’s rooftop solar capacity as of February 29, 2020, stood at 146.1 MW. Whereas, the state’s total installed solar power capacity stood at 1,095.10 MW at the end of February this year.

8). Haryana

Haryana houses the eighth-largest installed rooftop solar energy generation capacity across the country. It’s rooftop solar capacity by the end of February 2020, stood at 121.34 MW. While, Haryana’s total installed solar power generation capacity stood at 252.14 MW as on February 29, 2020.

9). Punjab

Punjab houses the ninth-largest installed rooftop solar energy generation capacity in India. It’s rooftop solar energy capacity as of February 29, 2020, stood at 118.52 MW. However, the state’s total installed solar power generation capacity stood at 947.10 MW at the end of February this year.

10). Telangana

Telangana houses the tenth-largest installed rooftop solar energy generation capacity across the country. It’s rooftop solar capacity as on February 2020, stood at 90.46 MW. While the state’s total installed solar energy capacity stood at 3,620.75 MW by the February end of 2020.
