SJVN has declared Teerth Gopicon and Reliance Industries as the winners of its 5,830 kW grid-connected solar project tender. The tender was floated under the PM Surya Ghar scheme. The tender for this project was released in September, and the results were declared within four months.

According to the tender results, Teerth Gopicon secured 5,705 kW capacity, while Reliance Industries won 125 kW. These winners will develop rooftop solar projects on Union Government buildings across seven states. These states were designated by the MNRE under the PM Surya Ghar scheme. These include the NCT of Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan. The projects are to be set up under the RESCO Mode through a tariff-based competitive bidding system.

The company informed about the development in its recent filing before the exchange. It said, “We have received the Letter of Award (LoA) from SJVN Limited for the implementation of a tentative 5,705 kWp capacity grid-connected rooftop plant. The project is expected to be completed within six months from the effective date of the PPA.”

PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana

The government launched the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana under Prime Minister Narendra Modi to boost the growth of residential rooftop solar. This scheme empowers households to harness solar energy by offering an increased subsidy to expedite the growth of rooftop solar. The Union government, several states and agencies are now also working to boost the growth of rooftop solar under RESCO mode where the RESCO firms will bear the upfront cost of the project and lease the rooftop from individuals to host such projects and benefit the roof providers with the benefits of rooftop solar.

The latest data from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) said that the installation of rooftop solar on identified government buildings could harness up to 3.1 GW of solar energy. Minister of State (MoS) of MNRE Sripad Yesso Naik said that the ministry has identified 81,188 such feasible government buildings where rooftop solar could be deployed. India’s current rooftop solar capacity has already surpassed 14 GW.

The Ministry collected this data from states, Union Territories (UTs), and Central Government Ministries and Departments. The data was related to rooftop solar installations in government buildings. The data was taken from the National Rooftop Portal. This portal is a gateway for the application and monitoring of the PM Surya Ghar scheme.
