Tata Power, Assam Government Sign MoU For EV Charging Network in Guwahati

Tata Power, is collaborating with the Assam Government, to improve the electric vehicle ecosystem in India. As part of this initiative, Tata Power is expected to deploy a network of 10 advanced EV chargers across 10 locations as a pilot within the city. 

The partnership between EV Charging Solutions Limited (TPEVCSL), a Tata Power Group Company and the Assam government was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to introduce EV charging infrastructure in Guwahati. 

The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) took place in the presence of Assam’s transport minister, excise & fisheries Parimal Suklabaidya. Alongside this, gathering of dignitaries including the secretary transport to the Govt. of Assam Adil Khan (IAS), Rabin Kumar (IPS) – commissioner of transport-assam, representing the state’s highest officials, Virendra Goyal, Head- Business development (EV Charging), Tata Power, along with key officials from the Transport Ministry.

On the occasion, the transport minister of Assam, S Parimal Suklabaidya stated, “In our collaboration with Tata Power, a leader in the electric charging sector, we exemplify our shared vision of advancing sustainability and improving the quality of life for the people of Assam. This initiative not only guarantees cleaner and more sustainable transportation but also a notable enhancement in the lives of our citizens”.

Tata Power claims it has achieved a market share of nearly 60% in the EV charging sector. 

With a reach across more than 420 cities with a wide array of charging solutions, it has also supplied over 59,000 home chargers, linked to sales of its sister firm Tata Motors, which is the market leader with the Nexon and Tiago EVs. There are 4,800 public and semi-public charging points, and 430 bus charging stations.

Earlier this year, automotive products firm Bridgestone India and Tata Power have come together to install EV chargers for four wheelers at Bridgestone dealerships on a pan India basis. These chargers will be operational on a 24×7 basis.
