Tata Power Commissions India’s Largest Natural Ester Filled Power Transformer By Ayush Verma/ Updated On Mon, Apr 12th, 2021 Tata Power has announced the commissioning of India’s largest natural ester filled power transformer in the Mumbai Transmission network Tata Power, India’s largest integrated company is committed towards ensuring safety and sustainability for its stakeholders, environment and the community. In line with this commitment, Tata Power has announced the commissioning of India’s largest natural ester filled 110 /33 /22 kV, 125 MVA power transformer in the Mumbai Transmission network at the BKC receiving station in active collaboration with Hitachi ABB Power Grids and Cargill. The natural esters used in these transformers have a high fire point (350 degree Celsius) and eliminate the risk of fire. The fluid is made from a carbon neutral renewable resource, is biodegradable, nontoxic and nonhazardous in soil and water. This fluid allows designing the transformer with increased capacity and reduced carbon footprint, making it an ideal solution for congested cities like Mumbai, as opposed to conventional mineral oil filled transformers. Speaking about the initiative Dr. Praveer Sinha, CEO & MD, Tata Power stated, “we have always been committed towards providing greener and sustainable solutions for our customers while ensuring uninterrupted power supply. We will continue to implement newer technological innovations and aim to reduce the carbon footprint along with improving overall performance.” A pioneer in providing reliable and uninterrupted power supply to the city of Mumbai, Tata Power Transmission caters around 70 percent of Mumbai’s energy. It has a network of about 1200 circuit transmission lines in and around Mumbai with a transformation capacity of about 10500 MVA. The company is committed to implement cutting edge solutions to cater to the increasing power demand in the city where space is a constraint. Recently, the firm had announced that its distribution utility in Delhi – Tata Power Delhi Distribution had launched a unique Narrow Band–Internet of Things (NB-IoT) technology in Smart Meters. This is the first installation of its kind in the country where smart meters have been installed on NB-IoT. The technology integration has been done involving meter manufacturers and NB-IoT service of Reliance-Jio Network.
