Tata Power Eyes 25.6 GW Clean Energy Milestone With Mega Projects Indian power solutions company Tata Power is optimistic about increasing its clean energy portfolio to 25,620 MW soon. This growth comes from a wide range of green projects currently under construction. The company, which was primarily a thermal power-based firm in 2015, has since transitioned towards cleaner solutions. Tata Power currently has a total operational capacity of 15,567 MW. A significant share of 57% is currently held by its thermal energy assets, amounting to 8,860 MW. On the other hand, its renewable energy portfolio currently stands at 6,707 MW, comprising: Solar projects – 4,100 MW Wind projects – 931 MW Hydro projects – 880 MW WHRS (Waste Heat Recovery System) – 443 MW Hybrid projects – 353 MW However, the firm stated that several of its under-construction renewable energy projects could contribute to expanding its clean energy portfolio to 25.62 GW. Some of the key under-construction projects include: Hybrid projects – 2,827 MW Pumped Storage Projects (PSP) – 2,800 MW Complex/FDRE projects – 1,902 MW Hydro projects – 1,725 MW Solar energy projects – 788 MW Wind energy projects – 11 MW Diversified Green Projects Tata Power is not confined to renewable energy projects alone but has also diversified into other clean energy initiatives. According to its latest investor presentation, Tata Power has a total of 4.9 GW of solar module and cell capacity (including 0.3 GW of cell capacity under construction). The company has also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for Pumped Storage Projects (PSP) and has energized approximately 55,400 Electric Vehicle (EV) charging points across 580+ cities. Future Roadmap Currently, 57% of Tata Power’s capacity comes from thermal sources, while 43% is from green sources. However, the company has outlined a clear green transition strategy. It plans to ensure that 70% of its total installed capacity will come from green sources by 2030, with a vision to be fully powered by green energy by 2045, phasing out its thermal portfolio by then.
