The company is now planning to boost its EV sales and services in tier-II Indian cities. Larger Cities Set To Get 150 E-Buses Under PM eBus Sewa India’s multinational automotive manufacturing company Tata Motors now has more than 600 operational electric buses plying in the country. The company recently shared the information in its latest investors conference call during the discussion on the Q1 FY24 financial results. According to the automobile firm, during the Q1 of FY24 itself, the company deployed around 180 electric buses. The firm claimed it has also ramped up its production capacity to meet the demands. “On the new businesses, on electric mobility, as a part of the CESL first tender, we have now deployed more than 100 buses, so almost 180 buses that we have deployed in Q1 of FY24. And we have now more than 600 buses which are operational,” said Girish Wagh, Executive Director, Tata Motors Limited. He also added that the new buses the firm deployed within three weeks covered almost 5 lakh kilometers, and Tata Motors e-buses covered more than 75 million kilometers in total. “Even in the new buses deployed, we are able to get the availability of more than 95% in the new depots. Overall, we sold 600 electric vehicles in the quarter that’s including ACE and the buses,” Wagh said in the investors call. Tata Group to Build Rs 13,000 Crore EV Battery Plant in Gujarat Also Read Shailesh Chandra, MD of Tata Motors Electric Mobility Limited, said that the firm is now planning to focus on tier II cities, and the plans are also in the offing to open up new dedicated EV-only showrooms. He also said that with the launch of Tiago EV, there had been a shift in micro markets. “More than 49% of the sales of Tiago EV kind of a product is coming from other than the top 20 cities. And therefore, we have taken that opportunity to really start expanding our network in those smaller cities through a shop-in-shop concept. And going forward, we also want to separate ICE as well as the EV showrooms, as and when we see the volumes in certain cities, which go to a certain level where the separate channel becomes viable,” he said.
