It includes both solar and wind power capacity. The upper limit in tariff has been fixed at 3 per unit for solar and 2.65 per unit for wind. Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission (TNERC) has given green signal for Tangedco to come up with tenders for adding new solar and wind power capacity in the state. The total capacity, for which the tenders are coming up, is 3000MW. It includes both solar and wind power capacity. The upper limit in tariff has been fixed at 3 per unit for solar and 2.65 per unit for wind. “We have received nod to float tenders for solar and wind power projects in 2018,” a report said while quoting Tangedco official. It is pertinent to mention here that as compared to other states Tamil Nadu is lagging behind in solar whereas it has a maximum capacity in wind. As per TNERC nod, the discom will be able to launch three separate consecutive tenders for grid-connected solar power capacity, of 500MW each. “The base tariff for solar and wind power was decided by Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) and based on that we have sought the nod from TNERC to float the tenders for the coming financial year,” a report said. However, 743 MW additional solar capacity is needed by the state to fulfill its solar renewable purchase obligation (RPO) requirement of 5,553 MW for the current fiscal year.
