TagEnergy, Vestas Join Forces To Develop 220-MW Spanish Wind Portfolio By Subhash Yadav/ Updated On Wed, Jan 31st, 2024 Highlights : TagEnergy said that it will also leverage its battery energy storage systems (BESS) expertise in the project. It appointed Vestas as the lead EPC provider and long-term service and maintenance supplier for the first stage of the project. Global clean energy enterprise TagEnergy and wind energy major Vestas have come together to develop 220-MW wind portfolio in Spain. The joint venture will see Vestas acting as lead developer and TagEnergy will draw on its experience developing wind farms to determine and shape the most cost-efficient model. The new wind energy project will come up in Castilla y León region. TagEnergy said that it will also leverage its battery energy storage systems (BESS) expertise. The company is already developing more than 270 MW of BESS in the UK and will lead potential hybridisation of the projects to help stabilise the grid. The co-development agreement in Spain deepens the already successful relationship between the Portugal-based independent power producer and Vestas, which began with the 756 MW Golden Plains Wind Farm – East, stage one of the landmark 1,300 MW Golden Plains Wind Farm project of TagEnergy in Victoria, Australia. TagEnergy said that it appointed Vestas as the lead engineering, procurement and construction provider, and long-term service and maintenance supplier for the first stage of the project. TagEnergy Deputy CEO, Jean-Baptiste Fournier says that the joint capabilities of the firms in Spain will speed the transition to renewable energy and bring more affordable and reliable power supply to more people in more places. “Spain is an increasingly important part of TagEnergy’s family of projects as we work towards a renewables-dominated energy future. While these are our first wind projects in Spain, we are already developing two solar PV plants in Murcia in the south-east, and the 100 MW Tabiella BESS project in Asturias in the country’s northwest.” Íñigo Sabater, Vestas Senior VP, says, “Our collaboration showcases how Vestas’ technical expertise in each and every segment of the lifecycle of a wind project can create new business opportunities for our customers across the world.” Vestas Development holds around 30 GW of wind capacity in its pipeline and has already obtained over 6.6 GW of firm projects from development activities. Spain Wind Power In 2023, the installed wind power capacity in Spain surpassed 30 gigawatts, a small increase in comparison to the previous year. In the past five years, Spain’s wind power capacity increased by roughly six gigawatts, after half a decade of stagnation. Between 2012 and 2018, the wind power development was stalled in terms of capacity addition. In 2022 Span wind power installation was 1,670 MW and the country would look to achieve the National Energy and Climate Plan target of adding 2.5 GW of wind power every year it already has over 250 manufacturing centers spread across the seventeen regions and having a capacity of 4,000 MW per year. According to an estimate, Spain will add a total of 7.2 GW of wind energy by 2025.
