Swaraj Tractors, Mahindra To Build Punjab’s Largest Solar Captive Project By Manish Kumar/ Updated On Wed, Apr 2nd, 2025 Swaraj Tractors, Mahindra Susten To Develop Punjab’s Largest Solar Group Captive Project Swaraj Tractors, a division of Mahindra Group, has partnered with Mahindra Susten, the Group’s clean-tech arm, to develop Punjab’s largest solar group captive project—a 26-megawatt (MW) solar installation in Bathinda district. The project, developed by Mahindra Susten, will supply renewable energy to four Swaraj Tractors manufacturing facilities in Mohali and Dera Bassi. It is expected to generate about 60 million kilowatt-hours (kW) of electricity annually. Renewable share to 50% The initiative aims to increase Swaraj Tractors’ renewable energy share to 50%. “With this project, we are introducing green energy on an unprecedented scale in tractor manufacturing in India,” said Hemant Sikka, president of Mahindra & Mahindra’s farm equipment sector. “It aligns with our vision of transforming farming and advancing sustainability.” Gaganjot Singh, CEO of Swaraj Division at Mahindra & Mahindra, said the initiative reflects the company’s commitment to a greener future. “By leveraging Mahindra Susten’s expertise, we aim to meet our renewable energy targets and contribute to Punjab’s evolving energy landscape,” he said. The project also marks Mahindra Susten’s entry into Punjab as an independent power producer (IPP). Deepak Thakur, Managing Director and CEO of Mahindra Susten, said the company is focused on delivering customized clean energy solutions for commercial and industrial clients. Swaraj Tractors, a division of Mahindra Group, is India’s second-largest tractor brand. It was established in 1974. The company manufactures tractors ranging from 15 to 65 horsepower (HP), providing comprehensive farming solutions and advancing horticultural mechanization.
