I-REC International Renewable Energy Certificates are a globally recognized standard that certifies the renewable origin of electricity. Sustainiam, a climate tech startup, and a carbon management solutions provider, onboarded 400 MW of renewable assets from Brookfield, a global renewable energy provider, for the registration, issuance, and trading of International Renewable Energy Certificates (I-REC). This portfolio primarily consists of wind assets, to help Brookfield expand its renewable energy capabilities in India and beyond. The 400 MW portfolio, which is now being processed for I-REC registration through Sustainiam’s issuance and trading platform, will enable Brookfield to tap into the growing demand for renewable energy certificates, ensuring their assets generate verified and tradeable I-RECs. Through this initiative, Brookfield expands its operations in India, where it currently oversees more than 25 GW of wind and solar assets, with plans to scale its renewable energy footprint further. I-REC stands for International Renewable Energy Certificate. I-RECs are a globally recognized standard that certifies the renewable origin of electricity. They can be used to document renewable energy consumption and report greenhouse gas emission reductions.
