Europe-based renewable energy company Statkraft has announced its plans to roll out 3000MW of renewable energy projects in Ireland by 2030. These projects will also include a 500MW North Irish Sea Array (NISA) offshore wind project.

The 3000MW projects by Statkraft include 1500MW projects that were completed recently or whose construction is underway, a 330MW project through the Government’s Renewable Electricity Supply Scheme (RESS) or via Corporate Power Purchase Agreement (CPPA), and another project with 500 MW capacity from the offshore RESS contract for the company’s NISA project. It has been proposed for an area off the coast of Dublin, Louth, and Meath.

Kevin O’Donovan, Managing Director of Statkraft Ireland, said, “Since Statkraft first entered the Irish market in 2018, we’ve been making huge strides to ensure that our projects make an important contribution to the ‘80 by 30’ targets set by the Government. Our work continues apace and the plans we’ve unveiled today demonstrate our determination to make a real difference to Ireland’s climate and energy security.”

He also added, “We’ve always said that there’s no silver bullet to reducing emissions from the energy sector. Ireland’s energy future needs will be powered by a range of renewable technologies working in harmony, so we’re proud to be one of the country’s first renewable energy companies to have a fully integrated approach to clean energy production.”

According to a statement by the company, Statkraft also has various grid services projects in its kitty.

Apart from renewable energy projects in Ireland, Statkraft has also announced earlier about its plans to invest six billion euros in hydro and wind projects including developing onshore wind farms in Norway. This will include around 1 billion euros in renewal of existing and construction of new onshore wind farms and 2,500 GWh or more wind power production in Norway. The company is also considering many new wind power projects throughout Norway and has a good dialogue with landowners, municipalities, and affected stakeholders, read a press statement by Statkraft.
