Statkraft BLP Solar Solutions (SBSS), a leading renewable energy company in India has commissioned a 5MW ‘in-campus’ solar project at SRF’s manufacturing plant in Gummidipoondi in the state of Tamil Nadu. The solar park is estimated to generate 7,500MWh of renewable energy per year. The project is one of the largest in-campus solar power projects in the state and will reduce the customer’s electricity costs and CO2 emissions significantly. “We are proud to have set up one of the largest ‘in-campus’ solar projects in Tamil Nadu, providing a high quality solar solution for SRF Limited,” Statkraft BLP Solar Solutions CEO Tejpreet S. Chopra said. “This will further enhance our position as a unique service provider in the solar sector, and is another step to contribute to reach India’s renewable energy targets by 2022,” Chopra added. The solar park is a milestone project for SBSS where innovative design helped overcome technical challenges faced to set up such a large project within an operating factory. The project has also been completed with an excellent HSE record. “Solar power production is going to show two-digit growth rates on a global scale. India has ambitious plans and potential to leap-frog into distributed energy thereby reducing energy costs and helping the environment,” Statkraft senior vice president new markets Torsten Amelung said.
