Statkraft in Agreement with Biopharmaceutical Firm for Offtake of Energy from Wind Farms Renewable energy firm Statkraft has revealed that Lister Drive Greener Grid Park in Liverpool has been set into operation and begun to power up the national grid. Greener Grid Parks by Statkraft is a collection of buildings, that are often established close to substations. They boast of technology designed to augment the capacity of renewable energy transmitted through the national grid. Statkraft maintains that its Greener Grid Parks ensure that the strength of the system is maintained and stability in the electricity system retained without harmful carbon emissions. Work on the site began back in 2021. While Statkraft will take care of the operation of the project, ABB will deliver long-term maintenance services. The firm has also been looking into the delivery as well as installation of the Greener Grid Park’s special equipment, which also entails synchronous compensators and flywheels. Stratkraft had invested £1.3bn in the renewable energy infrastructure of UK since 2006.The location is a part of this investment. As per Statkraft, Greener Grid Parks ensure that stability to the power network is deliverred, and more capacity of renewable energy like wind and solar generation to be utilised on the grid is made possible. The National Grid ESO, which operated Great Britain’s electricity network, aims to be independent of fossil fuels by 2025. Stakraft says its initiative will help fuel take forward these ambitions. Statkraft’s UK Managing Director Kevin O’Donovan commented, “Our Greener Grid Parks are a vital part of the energy transition, so it’s an important milestone that Lister Drive is now operational. If we don’t need to burn coal and run fossil fuel power stations, just to provide stability to the grid, it means fewer harmful emissions are being released into the air, and consumers are saving money, because renewable energy is cheaper. That’s why Greener Grid Parks are critical to ensure our electricity infrastructure is fit for the challenges of the future.” He further added, “The challenge we face is not just that more renewables are needed, but that the infrastructure is in place to support them. With our ambitious project pipeline, Statkraft is well placed to continue in its leading industry role delivering further Greener Grid Parks into the future and breaking the dependence on fossil fuel generators for good.” Statkraft has also won contracts with National Grid of UK for two additional Greener Grid Parks based in Scotland, with other three Greener Grid Parks located in England and Wales. In a recent development that took place in Janiuary this year, Enfinity Global and Statkraft announced that they had signed a 10-year solar power purchase agreement (PPA) in Italy. As per the deal, the committed energy will be produced by a 112 MW utility-scale solar power portfolio owned by Enfinity Global.
