Spain’s PV Hardware to Set Up Solar Tracker Facility in USA

Global solar tracker manufacturer PV Hardware (PVH) has announced plans to set up a large manufacturing unit in Texas, United States of America, to localise its products to supply for projects across North America. The company said that the capacity of the new facility will be 6 GW and it will be operational by June 2023.

PV Hardware maintains that it has complete control on every aspect in the manufacturing of its products. The company purchases its own steel, creates own rivets, own robotic systems, builds own controllers by sourcing electronics and employs in-house workforce in the manufacturing.

The new factory of PV Hardware in the USA will be its third wholly-owned manufacturing facility in the world. It will help the company to base its production on local materials and workforce contributing to the ongoing robust growth of solar energy in the United States and also help boost the economy.

The solar tracker-maker has been operating in the US from California since 2011 and it has supplied more than 2.5 GW in 36 solar PV across the country. PV Hardware is presently sourcing materials for its 2025 plans.

According to the annual report by global research and consultancy business Wood Mackenzie on global solar PV tracker markets last year, PV Hardware (PVH) ranked third in the world and leading in the markets of Europe and Africa. Today it has about 10 per cent of global market share. It has production facilities in Spain and Saudi Arabia and since 2018, it has been leading in the Middle East market.

The company has supplied a capacity of more than 16 GW of its solar trackers, controllers, SCADA software and other products to over 270 solar power plants across the globe. More than 95 of these plants have been of more than 50 MW capacities.

Industry experts hold that the decision of PV Hardware, like other key RE players, to enter the US markets in a big way is caused by the passing of Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) which has unleashed a wave of cleantech manufacturing. Under the new law, a number of incentives are offered to the RE players.

The US government is offering $30 billion investments in tax credits to accelerate domestic production of solar panels, wind turbines, batteries and critical minerals processing. There is also a $10 billion tax credit to promote local making of clean technology manufacturing facilities.
