Solar, Wind Generations See A Surge, Says CEA Data Latest data from the Ministry of Power said that the generation of solar and wind energy witnessed a rise on a Year-on-Year basis (YoY) in the month of April this year in India. The monthly generation data from the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) said that in the month of April 2024, India generated around 12,021 Million Units (MU) of solar power. On the other hand, in the same month in 2023, the country witnessed a solar power generation of 10,318 MUs. Source: CEA Wind energy generation in India also saw a rise by 11 percent on a YoY basis. India generated a total of 4729 MUs of wind power in the month of April 2024. On the other hand during the same period, the country witnessed a total wind power generation at 4249 MUs. In total, India’s renewable energy production (including large hydro) in April 2024 witnessed a rise by 5%. The country generated a total of 26732 MUs of green power in the April this year. Source: CEA However, generation of electricity from thermal sources continued to dominate India’s total power production with a total share of 79.83%. Generations from renewable sources accounted for only 17.25%. The total share of solar power generation out of all electricity production in April came to 7.76%. On the other hand, large hydro power production stood at 5.23%. Among the total renewable power generation of 26732 MUs in April, the highest share was contributed by solar power with a total share of 44.97%.
