Solar project commissioned by Nestle, Yellow Door in Dubai By Subhash Yadav/ Updated On Tue, Apr 19th, 2022 Highlights : Nestle has installed more than 2,500 solar panels on the carport structure of its Dubai factory. The project will reduce the carbon emission by one million kilogrammes annually and help in realizing the target of Nestle to become net-zero emitter by 2050. Nestlé Pure Life and Yellow Door Energy have commissioned a solar power plant at Nestle’s facility in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE). The project is designed to generate 2,400 megawatt-hours (MWh) of renewable energy. It is possibly part of the 7 MW capacity solar project announced by Nestle in 2017 at its manufacturing facilities in Dubai. Both the firms have shared no details on actual project installed capacity. Nestle says that the project will reduce the carbon emission and help in realizing the target of Nestle to become net-zero emitter by 2050. Yellow Door Energy is the solar lease provider and the organization will also finance, design, build, operate, and maintain the solar plant during the entire lease term. Nestle has installed more than 2,500 solar panels on the carport structure of its factory. Nestlé says that the solar PV installation will be enough to meet 80 per cent of the energy consumption of the Nestle factory. Nestle states that the carport structure is about six meters in height. The total installation provides shading to 72 distribution trucks of Nestlé Waters. The project also employs robots that will regularly clean the surface solar panels. This will be carried out to maximise energy generation efficiency and optimise visual aesthetics, says the company. “The solar lease with Yellow Door Energy brings us closer to our commitment to power all our facilities with renewable electricity by 2025. Today, I am honoured to inaugurate this solar carport, which will produce 2,400 megawatt-hours of renewable electricity and reduce carbon emission by one million kilogrammes annually. This is one key milestone in our exciting journey towards Net Zero Emissions by 2050,” said Matthias Riehle, Business Executive Officer, Nestlé Waters, Middle East and North Africa.
