Solar Power and Biometric Based ATM Being Developed for Rural India

Solar Power and Biometric Based ATM

Science and Technology Ministry has discussed the launch of two pilot prototypes of Solar Power and Biometric Based ATM in a rural bank.

As reported in IANS, Union Science and Technology Minister Harsh Vardhan told that a Solar Power and Biometric Based ATM have been developed by Indian scientists for rural areas. He further mentioned that after 8th November 2016, there was so much talk about digitization. A team of scientists led by Professor S.P. Gon Chaudhuri from Kolkata has designed a bio-solar ATM.

Union Science and Technology Minister informed that the project for Solar Power and Biometric Based ATM is in its final stage, and is expected to be ready in next two to three months and will be made available to the people soon.

Gon Chaudhuri, a renewable energy expert had unveiled a prototype of the Solar Power and Biometric Based ATM, priced at around Rs 6 lakh – half of a conventional ATM – during the Department of Science and Technology Conclave. The solar powered ATM will be biometric and have touch functionalities.
