Solar Boat Sails On Saryu River In Ayodhya In Testing Mode A solar-powered electric boat has been introduced on the holy Saryu River marking a significant milestone in the country. Following the directives of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Agency (UPNEDA) has outlined plans for the routine operation of this boat service in Ayodhya. The components and accessories of the solar boat have been sourced from various parts of the country and it was assembled in Ayodhya on the banks of Saryu. At present, a fully assembled boat is undergoing testing and is anticipated to be inaugurated by CM Yogi before the consecration program at the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple on January 22 in Ayodhya. As per officials, the inauguration of this solar boat paves the way for the regular operation of similar boats in the near future. As per reports between January 17 and 18, the solar boat will undergo various tests in Ayodhya, including waterproofing. This solar boat operates on the principle of clean energy, functioning as a dual-mode vessel powered entirely by solar electricity. Besides solar charging, it can also utilize electric energy. Categorized as a catamaran, the solar boat features two hull structures that can be joined to form a single boat structure. Crafted with a lightweight and durable fiberglass body, the solar boat ensures noise-free and environmentally friendly operation. With a capacity for up to 30 passengers, it will operate from the Naya Ghat of Ayodhya, offering a scenic tour lasting approximately one to 45 minutes. Despite its current operational duration, the solar boat boasts an impressive capacity and can travel for 5 to 6 hours on a full charge. Noteworthy features include remote viewing capabilities. Pune’s Sunny Boats Pvt Limited skillfully assembled the solar boat. Chennai’s Ra Source Pvt Limited served as the solar and propulsion partner. UPNEDA officials held that the solar boat is equipped with a 12-kW electric outboard twin motor and is powered by a 46-kWh capacity electric battery, accommodating 30 passengers and 2 crew members. Following successful testing, it is scheduled to be inaugurated in Ayodhya before the Pran Pratishtha ceremony on January 22. India’s Tryst With Solar Boats Plans to introduce boats, ships and cruises are gaining pace in different parts of the country whether on inland water resources or coastal seas. Odisha Government has issued tenders to introduce solar boats on Chilika Lake – its largest water body and tourist destination. The Kerala Water Transport Department has planned to introduce 15 solar powered electric boats in its backwaters to begin with. A ‘sun cruise’ was also introduced at the Peruvannamuzhi ecotourism spot in the Kozhikode district with two solar-powered boats meant for the reservoir to promote the culture of cruising among tourists. In Mumbai, eco-marine tech firm Navalt that specializes in the manufacturing of solar electric vessels released its solar boat, the Barracuda at Mazagon Dock. This is said to be one of the fastest solar-electric boats in India.
