SJVN Gets Letter oF Award from MSEDCL for 200 MW Solar Project in Maharashtra

SJVN Gets Letter oF Award from MSEDCL for 200 MW Solar Project in Maharashtra Nand Lal Sharma, CMD, SJVN

State-owned renewable energy company SJVN has announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary SJVN Green Energy has received a Letter of Award from Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDCL) for the development of a Solar Power Project in the State of Maharashtra.

SJVN said that the capacity of the solar project will be about 200 MW. As per the declaration in a statutory filing before BSE, the project shall be constructed in a period of 18 months. This shall be reckoned from the date of signing of PPA with MSEDCL, said the company filing. The tentative cost of development of the solar project will be about Rs 1,000 crore. SJVN had bid at Rs 2.95/kWh for the tender to win it’s 200 MW allocation. Other winners were Solar Arise which bid for 100 MW at Rs 2.90/kWh, and tata Power Renewable Energy Limuted (TPREL) which had bid for 300 MW (allotted 200 MW finally) for its bid at Rs 2.97/kWh.

In the first year of its operation, the solar energy project is expected to generate about 455.52 million units. It will be operational for a period of 25 years. SJVN held that the solar project would generate in the entire life power of about 10480.82 million units.

As per the document, the commissioning of the solar project is expected to reduce 5,13,560 tonnes of carbon emission and contribute to India’s goal of achieving 500 GW of Renewable Capacity by the end of this decade.

In October, 2022, SJVN won the 105-MW floating solar project from the Maharashtra State Power Generation Company (MAHAGENCO) and the work is expected to begin on Build Own and Operate (BOO) basis. It announced that it obtained the project through an e-reverse auction and the cost of the floating solar project will come to Rs 730 crores.

Presently, the firm has a portfolio of over 42,000 MW and wants to achieve its Shared Vision of 5000 MW by 2023, 25000 MW by 2030 & 50000 MW installed capacity by 2040.
