SJVN Secures 83 MW Floating Solar Project in Madhya Pradesh

State-run SJVN Ltd announced that it has been awarded a contract worth Rs 585 crore to construct, own, and manage an 83 MW floating solar plant in Madhya Pradesh. According to a release by REWA Ultra Mega Solar Ltd. (RUMSL), the project has been secured at a tariff of Rs 3.70 per unit on a build, own, and operate basis. 

“The largest floating solar park in India would be constructed at Omkareshwar in the Madhya Pradesh district of Khandwa. The estimated cost of creating the floating solar plant is Rs 585 crore,” according to SJVN Chairman and Managing Director Nand Lal Sharma. 

The project will produce 4,410 million units over 25 years after commissioning, with 187 million units produced in the first year. It said that after it is put into operation, carbon emissions should be reduced by about 2,16,074 tonnes over 25 years. 

RUMSL and SJVN will enter into a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA). After the PPA is signed, the project must be put into service in less than 21 months. “Since we are currently building a 90 MW floating solar project in Madhya Pradesh. This is our second floating solar project obtained through a tariff-based competitive bidding process from RUMSL,” Nand Lal Sharma stated further.

Through its fully owned subsidiary SJVN Green Energy Ltd, SJVN is carrying out this project as well as further renewable energy projects totaling 4,090.5 MW in capacity.

Recently, Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVN) Green Energy floated a tender for setting up a pilot project for a green hydrogen production plant of 20NM3 /HR capacity integrated with 25KW fuel cell power generation plant at 1500 MW NJHPS, Himachal Pradesh.

Additionally, Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVN) Green Energy also floated a tender for the supply of a 15 MW floating solar PV power plant at Nangal Pond in Bilaspur, Himachal Pradesh.

The Omkareshwar floating solar power plant is estimated to eventually involve investments of over  INR 3000 crores and will generate 600 MW of power. The first part of 300 MW has been allocated to SJVN and two others.
