SJVN and BHEL Sign MoU for Solar Power Projects

SJVN has entered into an MoU with BHEL for development of solar power projects in India.

SJVN Ltd. has announced that it has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bharat Heavy Electrical Ltd (BHEL) for development of solar power projects in India. 

The MoU aims at building a strategic partnership between the parties for jointly pursuing commercial solar power projects through participation in tariff/viability gap funding based competitive bidding process.

As per MoU, BHEL will be an engineering, procurement, construction (EPC) and project management contractor for SJVN projects. In addition to this, BHEL will also provide operation and maintenance (O&M) services after commissioning of the project. 

SJVN Ltd has commissioned five projects totalling 2015.2 MW of installed capacity including solar and wind. The company is presently implementing power projects in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Maharashtra and Gujarat in India besides neighbouring countries viz. Nepal and Bhutan. 

“This is one of the steps for SJVN towards becoming 5000 MW company by 2023, and 25000 MW by 2040,” the company issued in its statement.

In May,  SJVN Ltd. had issued a tender for setting up of  DC EV fast chargers for the Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Station (NJHPS) in Himachal Pradesh. The scope of work for the selected bidders will include the supply, installation, and commissioning of two 20 kW DC EV fast chargers (compatible with Bharat BEVC-DC001 specifications) at NJHPS Jhakri and the SJVN Central Headquarters in Shimla. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 9.4 lakhs.

In April 2018, the company signed an MoU with the Ministry of Power. As per the targets set in the MOU, the company shall strive to achieve 9,200 million units generation during the 2018-19 year under the ‘Excellent’ category. Further, the company had Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) target of Rs 900 crore and a turnover target of Rs 2,175 crore under ‘Excellent’ category along with other targets related to operational efficiency and project monitoring.
