Six-Minute Ultra-Fast Charging Battery Technology for Electric Vehicles by Nyobolt By Saur News Bureau/ Updated On Wed, Jun 14th, 2023 Highlights : The revolutionary ultra-fast charging battery technology offers more than double the charging speed of currently available EVs. Nyobolt, a UK-based developer specializing in ultra-fast-charging batteries, has announced a groundbreaking technology that promises rapid charging for electric vehicles (EVs). This achievement holds significant importance as it addresses one of the main limitations of EVs, surpassing or equalling the refuelling speed of traditional combustion-powered vehicles. The company has showcased its innovation through an electric sports car concept featuring a battery pack capable of full recharging with ultra-fast charging in less than six minutes. Equipped with a 35-kilowatt-hour pack, the sports coupe boasts an estimated range of approximately 155 miles (250 kilometres) on a single charge. While Nyobolt has not disclosed the exact weight of the vehicle, it has hinted that it falls below 1,500 kilograms (3,307 pounds), indicating a lightweight design. Nyobolt’s revolutionary battery technology offers more than double the charging speed of currently available EVs, according to the company’s estimates. Additionally, the battery has undergone rigorous testing, enduring over 2,000 fast charge cycles without significant degradation. Notably, the technology is scalable, enabling its application in larger battery packs as well. Nyobolt anticipates that such rapid charging rates will be achievable with the introduction of 1 MW chargers. The electric sports car concept showcasing Nyobolt’s new battery tech was collaboratively designed by Julian Thomson, the acclaimed designer behind the original Lotus Elise, and Callum, a British design and engineering company founded by former Jaguar designer Ian Callum. Thomson aimed to capture the essence of the lightweight sports car concept, envisioning a modern interpretation that is wider, longer, and lower than its predecessor. Sai Shivareddy, CEO of Nyobolt, expressed the significance of their technology, stating, “Previously, enabling a lightweight fast-charging vehicle was not possible without compromising its lifetime, leading to reliance on costly and larger battery packs. With our unique technology, we have achieved a six-minute charge car and developed smaller battery packs that deliver more power in less time.” Nyobolt’s breakthrough in ultra-fast charging battery technology marks a significant stride toward enhancing the viability and convenience of electric vehicles, propelling the world closer to sustainable transportation solutions.
