Singapore's Sembcorp Awarded 300 MW Solar Project in India Sembcorp Industries (Sembcorp), through its wholly owned renewables subsidiary Green Infra Wind Energy Limited (GIWEL), received the Letter of Award (LOA) for a 300 MW Inter State Transmission System connected solar project. The project has been won by way of competitive bidding and has been awarded by NHPC, an enterprise of the Government of India that delves into the development of hydropower. The build-own-operate project is part of a 3 GW tender issued by NHPC earlier this year. In its LOA, NHPC has confirmed the acceptance of GIWEL’s final offer and committed to purchase power from the project. Upon completion of the Project, power the output from the project will be sold to NHPC under a 25-year long-term power purchase agreement. The project is expected to be ready for commercial operation in 2026 and will be funded through a mixture of internal funds and debt. Sembcorp’s Presence in India GIWEL recently signed an agreement with Leap Green Energy Private Limited to acquire two special purpose vehicles owning 228 MW of operational wind assets in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Rajasthan. With this win, Sembcorp’s gross renewables portfolio in India will reach 3.7 GW. This brings Sembcorp’s gross renewables capacity globally to 13 GW, including 473 MW of acquisitions pending completion. Sembcorp has presence in 18 states of India. Sembcorp Green Infra, an Independent Power Producer in India, boasts a portfolio exceeding 3 GW solar and wind energy in the country. Earlier in the year, Sembcorp had participated in and won a bid by the Railway Energy Management Company Limited (REMCL) for a wind energy project of 50.4 MW capacity. GIWEL picked Suzlon to develop the project. Some major projects in Sembcorp portfolio include a 400 MW solar power project and a 180 MW wind power project contracted with SECI, 164 MW RE projects contracted with commercial& industrial (C&I) customers, 50 MW wind asset won under a tender from the Indian Railways and another 64 MW solar asset in Gujarat acquired as part of the Vector Green portfolio.
