Shakti Pumps Starts Operations in Uganda To Supply Solar Pumps

Shakti Pumps (India) Limited, of the critical Indian stainless steel submersible solar pump manufacturers, has now announced the commencement of its operations in Uganda. The company has also opened its office in the country to coordinate its expanding business better. 

Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Ramesh Patidar, Executive Director of Shakti Pumps, and other representatives from Uganda joined together to inaugurate the country’s solar-powered piped drinking water supply project. It will likely pave the way for sustainable water supply to half a million Ugandans across 20 rural districts. 

The Uganda government awarded the order to the company for supplying solar-powered water pumping systems in March 2021 at a total contract price of USD 35.30 million. The India Exim Bank in Uganda funded this. 

“We are delighted to announce the implementation of our Uganda project, a key milestone for the company. This project would augur well with our green energy plans in Africa and would likely encourage other African countries to partner with us for similar projects. In addition, exports have contributed significantly to the company’s revenue. We are already a partner of choice for major export markets such as the US and the Middle East, and eyeing to expand in other continents similarly,” Patidar said. 

The company began its business as a core pumping Solutions Company and went on to manufacture India’s first-ever 100% stainless-steel pumps and energy-efficient motors. It was also awarded India’s first BEE 5 Star-rated pump and today has over 260 pump models, which have been certified with 5-star ratings by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE). The venture claims that it has more than 35 percent market share in the PM-KUSUM scheme of the government.
