To boost the availability of solar water pumps throughout Uttar Pradesh (UP), the State Department of Agriculture has awarded a Letter of Intent (LoI) to Shakti Pumps. The Madhya Pradesh-based solar pump company received an order for 12,537 pumps to be supplied across the state under the Component B of the PM-KUSUM scheme (Phase-III). The total value of the work order is around  Rs 558.16 crores and must be executed by March 31, 2025. The order will be fulfilled in phased-based on the quantities defined in the letters of proceeding (once received).

The state government has issued this order for the supply, installation, and commissioning of solar water pumping systems. The project is expected to be completed within 120 days from the receipt of the letters of proceeding. The total project value is Rs 558.16 crores.

Shakti Pumps Expands Focus To Component C Of PM-KUSUM Scheme

Bolstered by the success of grid-connected solar pumps, the Indian solar pump company is now planning to expand its focus to Component C of the PM-KUSUM scheme. Last year, the Ajmer DISCOM awarded Shakti Pumps a project to replace grid-connected pumps with grid-connected solar pumps to provide surplus solar power to the grid. This project, valued at Rs 150 crores, marked a significant step for the Indore-based company, which views this technology as ‘niche’ and is considering extending it to larger areas due to its benefits.

In a recent investor call, Dinesh Patidar, Chairman of Shakti Pumps, discussed the advantages of the scheme for all stakeholders and outlined the company’s plan to engage additional DISCOMs nationwide. This award for grid-connected solar pumps was granted under Component C of the scheme.

Patidar described Component C of the scheme as a ‘dream project.’ “Component C is a very good scheme. In this, farmers receive an income of Rs. 50,000 per year, and DISCOMs benefit from Rs. 1 Lakh per year. In 3-4 years, the entire investment for DISCOMs becomes free. To make this scheme successful, we have already identified around 200-250 feeders in Rajasthan’s Ajmer DISCOM. We are working on this, and as a new project, it presents a significant challenge for us,” he said.
