A high-intensity dust storm followed by thunder showers wreaked havoc in parts of Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan overnight, leaving more than 70 people dead and various other injured. Besides the loss of human lives due to storm, there’s the news of ‘Bikaner Solar Farm’ which is reportedly going viral on the social media groups like whatsapp. Lots of people are sharing a video on the whatsapp groups showing – How severely the storm hit ‘Solar Farm’ situated in the Bikaner city of Rajasthan state. However, at the time of reporting this news we could not verify the source of this video. But, this video raised various questions including, whether India, which is Asia’s third largest economy and among the solar power promoter countries, be able to handle such situations. As the structure looks like very flimsy and defies the basic engineering norms too. In such situations how India could claim to be a solar power rich nation. If this news is correct, then this will be an alarming condition for the whole domestic solar power industry and India should intensively work on the ground to be better prepared for such natural calamities in future.
