Senvion India Launches 4 MW Wind Turbine With RE Technologies

The Wind Energy Hamburg Trade Fair 2024, saw the launch of the 4.2M160 wind turbine generator, marking a significant technology advancement in harnessing potential from wind energy. The joint effort by RE Technologies and the Alfanar owned Senvion India  saw the new turbine designed and developed by the in-house R&D teams in India and Germany. The 4.2M160 is designed to maximise energy output through advanced control technologies and adaptive systems that respond to environmental changes for optimal performance.

The 4.2M160 turbine is the first 4 MW WTG by RE Technologies & Senvion group, with a rotor size of 160 m and hub heights up to 140m. The turbine is based on the proven DFIG technology with the 78.5 m blade specifically designed for the low wind conditions. The turbine will be certified under IEC RE OD 501 and is adaptable to the grid code compliance standards in India and other markets. Equipped with an advanced controller to enable reliable performance also in low wind conditions as well as reducing loads for reliable long-term operations, the 4.2M160 offers enhanced reliability and an extended lifespan by reducing strain from extreme conditions with a reliable power output. The turbine design also ensures operating in sand, dust and high temperature climate, making it a highly agile solution for various markets. 4XM’s modular design ensures tailor made solutions to deliver business case certainty.

For Senvion, with its advanced local manufacturing capacity of over 1,000 MW and sourcing 85% of wind turbine generator (WTG) parts from within India, the newest turbine demonstrates a strong commitment to boosting local industry while serving global needs.

Amit Kansal, CEO & Managing Director, Senvion India, said, “The 4.2M160 epitomises our relentless pursuit of innovation in wind energy technology. We have engineered this turbine to exceed the expectations of our global customers, ensuring superior performance and reliability in the most challenging environments. Our commitment to a modular design and site-specific adaptations means that this turbine can meet the unique needs at every installation site efficiently.

Jamal Wadi, Managing Director, RE Technologies, stated, “The launch of the 4.2M160 serves as a testament to RE Technologies’ commitment to increasing energy production while promoting sustainability and local economic growth. Through an exclusive licensing agreement with Senvion India, we can utilise the fully localised value chain to manufacture and deploy cutting-edge technology that maximises energy output and minimises operational costs. This turbine represents an important milestone in our journey to offer our customers superior performance and reliability, tailored to meet the unique needs of each installation site. Senvion India’s robust manufacturing capabilities ensure the seamless production and deployment of the advanced technologies developed by RE Technologies in various markets, further solidifying the collaboration between the two entities.
