Self Certification For Solar Inverters Gets Another Extension From MNRE By Chitrika Grover/ Updated On Fri, Jan 31st, 2025 Highlights : The government’s latest notification extended the rule up to December 31st, 2025. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has extended the self-certification deadline for solar PV inverters above 100 kW. The government’s latest notification extended the rule up to December 31st, 2025. The Central Government issued a “Solar Photovoltaics, Systems, Devices and Components Goods (Requirements for Compulsory Registration) Order, 2017” for six products. It included a list of the components in the schedule with the date of coming into force with effect from 5.9.2018. The notification explained, “While, the self-certification for SPV inverters (items 4-5) of the capacity of more than 100 kW (>100 kW) was extended up to 31.12.2024 or till further orders, whichever is earlier published in Gazette of India dated 28.12.2023.” Whereas, given the availability of test facilities for limited capacities, MNRE’s latest notification provides more time for compliance. MNRE in its earlier notification extended the rule from 31.12.2024 to 31.12.2025 or till further orders, whichever is earlier. Previous Extensions The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) last year extended the deadline for self-certification of solar PV inverters till 2024. Before that, it was published in a gazette notification on 28.07.2023. to review the availability of test facilities for limited capacities. “It gave more time for compliance, and implementation of Quality Control Order (QCO), 2017 for SPV inverters (items 4-5). These inverters are of a capacity of more than 100 kW (>100 kW) and stand extended from 31.12.2023 to 31.12.2024 or till further orders, whichever is earlier.” stated the notification. The erstwhile notification was published in a gazette notification on 28.07.2023. It gave more time for compliance, and implementation of Quality Control Order (QCO), 2017 for SPV inverters (items 4-5). These inverters are of a capacity of more than 100 kW (>100 kW) and stand extended from 31.12.2023 to 31.12.2024 or till further orders, whichever is earlier, stated the notification. The deadline extension is not a surprise, considering the limited bandwidth available with the relevant testing authorities to complete testing. Plus, most sellers in India have well known international certifications as well, taking away most of the risk of sub par products.
