SECI Seeks Bids To Combine 5 MW Solar With Saffron Farming In J&K SECI

Soon after allotment of the 25 MW/50 MW solar plus storage project to Gujarat-based solar EPC Prozeal, Solar Energy corporation of India (SECI) has now sought bids to develop 5 MW(AC) grid connected saffron based Agro-Solar PV Power Plant with 10 years. The project is located at Pampore, Pulwama, J&K. SECI has set 7th November 2024 as the last day for bids submission.

The agro-solar PV power plant project is meant to serve both the local economy and help contribute to saffron production. At the best of times, saffron cultivation is a very delicate and labour intensive process, and is done successfully at scale only in Kashmir. This is due to the plant growing well in the climatic conditions and soil found in the region.

The successful bidder for this project would be responsible for or the performance i.e., the the supply, construction and commissioning of the project, SECI tender said. Some of the key responsibilities includes the supply and storage of all mandatory spare parts, consumables, repairs/ replacement of any defective equipment, etc.

Additionally, the bidder for the solar project would also undertake the commissioning and performance demonstration, as detailed in technical specification. The key responsibilities  includes ensuring the suppling and storage of all mandatory spare parts, consumables, repairs/ replacement of any defective equipment, etc. Additionally, the bidder would also be expected to make site visits at the proposed site to study the actual conditions and go through the plans/ drawings connected to the present scope of work etc including power evacuation system and ground mounted Project capacities and get acquainted with the same before attending Pre-bid meeting.

Agri-voltaics have made some progress in the past two years, backed by more and more successful pilots and results from longer studies that have made out a case for them in special situations. In India, that will mean crops that grow well even in the shade, and in fact, benefit from lower exposure to harsh sunshine. Costs can be a little higher due to customised structures that need to be taller typically, besides building in other customisations including protection from monkeys and other animals, for instance.
