SECI recently allocated a 600 MW Hybrid Power Project to three companies namely: Juniper Green, ACME And Sembcorp. Among the four bidders, the Renewable Energy Implementing Agency reported the lowest tariff of Rs 3.25/kWh.

According to its recent announcement, SECI awarded the project to Juniper Green Energy, ACME Solar Holdings, and Sembcorp Green Infra to develop 600 MW Inter-state Transmission System (ISTS)-connected wind-solar hybrid power projects (Tranche IX). ACME and Juniper were awarded 300 MW and 150 MW at a tariff of Rs. 3.25/kWh respectively. Singapore-based Sembcorp won 150 MW out of the quoted capacity of 300 MW at a tariff of Rs.3.26/kWh under the bucket-filling method.

SECI wind-solar hybrid auction (Tranche IX) was initially launched in June 2024 with a total 400 MW capacity. However, due to strong demand, the capacity was later expanded to 600 MW. The hybrid projects awarded in this auction must include both solar and wind components, with at least 33 percent of the contracted capacity coming from each energy source.

As per the scope of work, successful Hybrid Power Developers (HPD) are required to set up ISTS-connected Wind-solar project under this bid. One of the key responsibilities of the bidder is to develop a transmission network up to the Interconnection/Delivery Point(s). Its primary objective of supply Wind-Solar Hybrid Power to SECI, at its own cost and as per the provisions of the RfS and PPA.

The bidders are also expected to identify land, installation, and ownership of the Project(s), along with obtaining connectivity and necessary approvals and interconnection with the ISTS network/STUor InSTS network (as applicable) for supply of power to SECI, will be under the scope of the HPD. For STU interconnection, HPD may install the Project in the same State where the Buying Entity is located. The Projects to be selected under this scheme provide for the deployment of Wind-Solar Hybrid Power Technology. However, the selection of Projects would be technology-agnostic
