In a regulatory filing before authorities, Sarda Energy & Minerals has declared that the purpose of this project is to fulfill the company’s captive energy needs for its production and mining facilities. Sarda said that this decision reflects the company’s dedication to meeting its captive energy requirements through sustainable and renewable sources. The projected timeline for completing the project is estimated to be between 6 to 9 months from the letter of intent’s signing, Sarda held in the filing. The energy generated is captively used in the company’s sponge iron, billet, ingot and ferro alloys plants. The firm has planned for future expansion of an Integrated Steel Plant. Company also proposes to set up two 660 MW merchant thermal power plants in phases, in the state of Chhattisgarh. As per MNRE, the installed solar power capacity in the Chhattisgarh stood at 944-MW in 2022.
