Sanjeev Nandan Sahai Appointed to Chair Power Secretary By Manu Tayal/ Updated On Wed, Oct 23rd, 2019 As per the order of the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, Sahai has been appointed in place of Subhash Chandra Garg, a 1983-batch IAS officer, who will be retiring on October 31, 2019. In a significant development, senior IAS officer of 1986-batch, Sanjeev Nandan Sahai, has been appointed as the new power secretary after the approval from Appointments Committee of Cabinet (ACC) on Tuesday. As per the order of the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions, Sahai has been appointed in place of Subhash Chandra Garg, a 1983-batch IAS officer, who will be retiring on October 31, 2019. Currently, Sahai is designated as the special secretary in the Ministry of Power. Besides, ACC has also upgraded the post of Praveen Kumar, a 1987-batch IAS officer, to special secretary in the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE). He is currently handling the post of additional secretary in the ministry. The personnel ministry said that it has upgraded the posts of some 1987-batch IAS officers to the level of special secretary in the rank and pay of Secretary to the Government of India, as a measure personal to them, by temporarily upgrading the posts held by them. Earlier in July this year after the budget was passed by the Parliament, Garg had applied for voluntary retirement scheme (VRS) on being transferred to power ministry from the post of finance secretary. He was serving the 3-month notice period which was pending for approval from the ministry. However, Garg had earlier clarified to media reporters that there was no connection between his resignation and transfer. In other appointments, Pramod Kumar Das, a 1986-batch IAS officer, Special Secretary, Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance will be the new Secretary of Ministry of Minority Affairs. He will be appointed in place of Sailesh, an IAS officer from 1985-batch, after his appointment as the new secretary in the Department of Public Enterprises. Pankaj Kumar, a 1987-batch IAS officer, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology will be the new CEO of Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) in the rank and pay of secretary by temporarily upgrading the post, said ministry.
