RUMSL Issues LOAs For 600 MW Omkareshwar Floating Solar Project By Saur News Bureau/ Updated On Fri, Jul 1st, 2022 SJVN Green Energy Limited commissions a 90 MW floating solar project in Omkareshwar. Letters of Award were distributed by Principal Secretary of New and Renewable Energy Department, Madhya Pradesh, Sanjay Dubey, on June 30 to the developers selected in the first phase of 600 MW Omkareshwar Floating Solar Project on Narmada river in Khandwa district of Madhya Pradesh. The tender for Phase-I achieved minimum rates of Rs 3.22, Rs 3.21 and Rs 3.26 per unit for units D, E and F respectively. M/s NHDC Limited, AMP Energy and SJVN Limited were issued letters of awards for the respective units on June 30 for developing a total capacity of 278 MW. Touted as the world’s largest floating 600 MW solar energy project till last year, it will begin power generation by year 2022-23. The estimated investment in this project stands at Rs 3,000 crore. The International Finance Corporation, World Bank and Power Grid have granted in-principle consent for providing aid. Electricity will be produced in about 2000-hectare water area by installing solar panels in the dam. When the water level of the dam is low, it will automatically adjust upwards and downwards. The State Government and RUMSL hit some innovative ideas and gave a concrete shape to development of a solar project on water. It not only saved the precious land but also used the reservoir on a river. When the state government released the Request for Proposal (RFP) for the first phase of 300 MW capacity on November 02, 2021, about 15 companies including a few from abroad participated in the bid process conducted. The project developers were selected on May 06, 2022 through e-reverse auction process in the competitive tendering process. The floating solar project is being implemented under the ‘Ultra Mega Renewable Energy Power Parks Scheme (UMREPP)’ of MNRE. The entire 600 MW of power generated from Omkareshwar Floating Solar Project will be procured by the state Discoms (through MPPMCL). Hence, this project will also help the state government comply with the RPO target.
