Russian energy player Rosatom Group leadership has said that it is looking at opportunities in the renewables and carbon fibre sectors, among others, with regards to the Indian market and the firm wants to play a key role in the energy transition of the country, according to reports. Vadim Titov, President of Rusatom-International Network, has called the outlook of the Indian energy sector as ‘very promising.’ Titov stated that his company is looking for cooperation with Indian partners in areas like carbon fibre and wind energy. Rosatom will also be looking to delve into the areas of nuclear medicine, radiation technologies and energy storage. The group is already building the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant in Tamil Nadu consisting of six reactors- each having an installed capacity of 1,000 MW. The company has operationalised two nuclear units. Titov said that Rosatom is not merely a nuclear energy-focused company but also leads in wind power generation in Russia as it owns more than 600 MW of wind energy capacity. This comes in the backdrop of the Indian Prime Minister recently emphasising the importance of the International North-South Corridor, the Chennai-Vladivostok Maritime Corridor and the Northern Sea Route. Titov further shared that India wants to partner with Russia on Arctic issues, especially those related with energy. Rosatom may also collaborate with India for electric vehicles and lithium batteries. Energy storage will be another area of cooperation. Titov stressed that nuclear power is an eco-friendly source of energy that will play a key role in future. His company is presently working with 50 countries and building 35 nuclear plants. He said that nuclear energy is a solution to the extreme volatility attached with nuclear energy.
