Repsol Picks Siemens Gamesa Turbines For Its 200-MW Wind Projects By Saur News Bureau/ Updated On Tue, May 9th, 2023 Highlights : Siemens Gamesa will supply 40 units of its SG 5.0-145 onshore turbines for six wind farms in Spain. The wind projects will provide clean energy to around 160,000 households. Siemens Gamesa and Spanish petrochemical conglomerate Repsol have confirmed signing of two new contracts under which the global turbine maker will supply 40 units of its SG 5.0-145 onshore turbines for six wind farms in Spain. The total capacity of the six wind farms will be 200 MW. Following this agreement, Repsol will have eight wind farms employing Siemens Gamesa technology, reaching a total of 324 MW. The first contract includes four wind farms in the province of Palencia and Northern Spain that are part of Pi project of Repsol. These wind energy projects will use 28 wind turbines of Siemens Gamesa with a total capacity of 140 MW. Here, 12 onshore turbines of Siemens Gamesa totaling 60 MW will be installed. Siemens Gamesa said that the two contracts with Repsol include the maintenance of the six wind farms for a period of five years. These turbines will potentially avoid the emission of 540,000 tons of CO2, equivalent to the emission of more than 300,000 vehicles, said Siemens Gamesa. In addition, the manufacturing of these components will also benefit the company’s suppliers. Last year Siemens Gamesa purchased 1.4 billion euros of products and services from its suppliers, 25% higher than in 2021. “Our aim is to continue working side by side with our customers to advance the growth of wind energy in Spain, which will help promote a green transition and further the cause of energy independence”, said Kerman Gabiola, managing director of Siemens Gamesa in Spain. “This new agreement with Siemens Gamesa allows us to continue progressing towards our ambitious goal of reaching 6 GW of installed renewable capacity by 2025 and 20 GW by 2030,” says Enrique Pedrosa, COO for Europe and Latam at Repsol Low Carbon Generation. Siemens Gamesa In Spain With these new contracts the turbine maker consolidates its leadership in Spain, where it has 15.4 GW of installed capacity in Spain for the end of 2022. This is 52% of the total installation in Spain. Spain is one of the countries that is giving the greatest support to renewable energy. The country’s goal for 2030 is to achieve 42% of final energy use from renewables, and 74% of electricity supply from renewable energies, rising to 100% renewable by 2050.
