Reliance Set To Launch Its First Solar Gigafactory By FY25 By Chitrika Grover/ Updated On Thu, Aug 8th, 2024 Highlights : Additionally, the company plans to focus on other energy segments, such as building battery chemicals and components, cell and pack manufacturing, and energy storage systems. RIL Set To Launch Its First Solar Gigafactory By FY25, Says Report Reliance Industries, in its Integrated Annual Report 2023-24, shared its plans to commission its first solar Gigafactory in FY25, with most of the company’s renewable energy development and manufacturing operations at Jamnagar. In its business review, Reliance highlighted the growth the company has achieved from 2023 to 2024. Regarding its renewable energy (RE) plans, Reliance announced its intention to develop production capabilities for GH2 and its derivatives. The location of these facilities will depend on the availability of suitable land, evacuation infrastructure, and requisite demand. The company states, “We have made significant progress in establishing factories that will be part of our Integrated Solar PV Manufacturing. New Energy will commission its first module and cell manufacturing train in FY25. Solar panels manufactured in Jamnagar have obtained BIS certification.” The annual report discussed the company’s efforts, “Parallelly, work on RE development has commenced, and Reliance has been allotted land in Gujarat. We aim to become the largest RE developer in India. We have initiated participation in RE PPAs, with the first PPA signed with MSEDCL for 128 MW over 25 years. A 50 MWh per year capacity pilot line for manufacturing Li-ion battery cells has been set up through Lithium Werks and can be scaled up for commercial production.” The company further elaborated, “Reliance has qualified for the government’s Performance Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for manufacturing electrolyzers with a capacity of 300 MWe annually and for green hydrogen production of 90 kTPA. This is in addition to the PLI awards for Solar PV (from polysilicon to modules) and Advanced Chemistry Cells (ACC) received in the previous year. Reliance has signed an MOU with the Government of Maharashtra for 100 kTPA GH2 production, with a total projected investment of ₹15,000 crore and employment generation of approximately 4,000 (direct and indirect). Reliance has also signed an MOU with Brookfield for onshore renewable power and decarbonization equipment manufacturing in Australia.” Top 5 Non-Chinese Solar Manufacturers Disrupting China’s Stronghold Also Read In sharing the company’s updates, Reliance stated, “The company will also invest in enhancing the value chain, partnerships, and future technologies, including upstream and downstream projects such as integrated PV manufacturing from quartz to PV modules and building an ecosystem of ancillary units.” Reliance Owned REC Group Launches REC Alpha Pro M Also Read Additionally, the company plans to focus on other energy segments, such as building battery chemicals and components, cell and pack manufacturing, and energy storage systems. It will also work on developing an electrolyzer and hydrogen value chain, power generation to ensure round-the-clock availability for hydrogen production, and power electronics systems required to support renewable energy, including inverters, chargers, and DC-DC converters. Furthermore, Reliance aims to advance renewable energy for mobility and compressed biogas for energy generation.
