REC Foundation Pledges to Distribute Essential Items to 5K Needy People Affected from Lockdown By Manu Tayal/ Updated On Mon, Jun 8th, 2020 In a further step of providing relief to the needy people, REC Foundation, the CSR arm of the Central Public Sector Undertaking (CPSU) REC Ltd, has pledged to distribute 5,000 customized packets of essential items to labourers and others those affected on the back of lockdown imposed by the government to contain the spread of coronavirus. Such packets, which are made up of sustainable cloth bags, contain a drinking water bottle, roasted chana, peanuts, mixture, glucose powder, footwear and reusable masks. The NBFC has planned this activity in a phased manner, its first leg of activity was planned on June 04, 2020, and approximately 500 such packets were distributed among 500 beneficiaries in Delhi. During its second phase which was successfully completed on June 7, 2020, REC has distributed nearly 1,000 packets in Gurgaon and Noida. Besides this, REC in collaboration with several other power distribution companies (Discoms), district authorities, and NGOs, is already providing cooked meals and ration to the needy across the country. This is in line with REC Ltd’s announcement in April 2020, that via its CSR arm REC Foundation, it had sanctioned Rs 7 crore in a step to speed up the relief work amidst lockdown due to the spread of the coronavirus pandemic. CPSU REC Ties Up with TajSATS to Feed Medical Staff Serving amid Covid-19 Also Read The Ministry of Power through a notification intimated that, as of June 6, 2020, the corporation has distributed over 4.66 lacs Kilograms of foodgrains, 2.56 lac meal packets, 9,600 litres of sanitizers, 3,400 PPE kits and 83,000 masks. Additionally, it has also joined hands with TajSATS (a joint venture of IHCL and SATS Ltd) to feed the frontline healthcare workers, through collaborative efforts, in Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi. Through this initiative, REC is providing daily 300 food packets as a gesture of gratitude to the frontline healthcare warriors of New Delhi, and over 18,000 meals are being delivered in New Delhi. Meanwhile, REC is also the nodal agency for Govt. of India flagship schemes launched for the power sector like Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY), Saubhagya. Apart from this, it provides financial assistance across the power sector value chain. Earlier, concerned over the plight of daily wagers, the Navratna NBFC also said that more such funds are already in the pipeline for this purpose.
